This Bespoke large solid rimu slab dining table we created for a client, she was looking at a budget alternative for a large dining table and this slab with a large crack in it became the starting point for the design. We created the supporting curved leg in the style of traditional coopering method by joining narrow pieces of timber and sanding them into the round shape.
The slab we used was 3200 long and 1100mm wide, the large crack on one end we turned into a feature by routing out tapered wedges from the table top and inserting solid rimu wedges and glueing them in place to stitch the top back together. Finished in a modified tung oil this table was a very impressive piece.
