This table is a true one of a kind piece, it is seldom I find such a large thick slab of recovered heart rimu.
This piece was recovered and milled in the early 1990’s and has been shed stored ever since (see the photo of the old timer who recovered it) to get the maximum from the slab we milled off the edges damaged by time and weather and then we added contrasting dark red toned rimu to that edge. By doing this we managed to finish with a table 3350 long x 1085 wide by 75 mm thick.
We finished the side’s and ends square, the leg supports are all heart rimu with a unique rounded leg made in the time honoured coopering method. Toward one end is a very unique feature showing the cell structure of the timber we filled this with clear epoxy resin and finished it smooth. We applied7 coats of modified tung oiland 3 coats of two pack uroxys high gloss lacquer (heat and scratch resistant) to the table. This brings out the stunning rimu colours to thier maximum.
This table looks stunning and will work equally as well as a boardroom or large dining table.
