Rimu is a fine, even-textured, medium-density softwood.
The heartwood is reddish-brown, sometimes yellowish-brown andvery decorativehowever itfades on exposure to light. The intermediate zone has an even, light-brown colour and sapwood a lighter brown tone. It is straight grained.
